Mountain Goat Soap Co.

We’re so excited to introduce you to Diane, the heart and hands behind Mountain Goat Soap Co., a small-batch soap company based in North Carolina. What began as a simple quest to soothe her daughter's skin became a full-blown mission to create natural, nourishing soap for every body — and we’re so glad she said yes to the journey.

Here’s a peek behind the scenes!

🐐 What inspired you to start making soap?

It all started with my daughter’s sensitive skin. I needed a gentle soap that didn’t dry her out or cause irritation — but what I found on store shelves just wasn’t cutting it. So I dove into the world of natural soapmaking. It started as a solution for her, and quickly turned into something bigger — something I loved doing.

💛 What’s behind the name “Mountain Goat”?

I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the name just felt right. Mountain goats are strong, stubborn, and surefooted — which pretty much sums up what it’s like to build a small business from scratch! It’s a little nod to where I live and the energy I bring to the business.

🧼 What makes your soap special?

Every bar is made with love (and a whole lot of intention). I use natural oils, butters, and botanicals — never synthetic fragrances or dyes. It’s about making something that feels good on your skin and aligns with how we want to care for ourselves and the planet.

🏡 What does handmade mean to you?

To me, handmade is personal. It means real people making real things — with care, creativity, and heart. It’s the opposite of mass production. Every batch I make is done in small quantities, by hand, with a connection to the people who will use it.

🌱 What’s your favorite part of the process?

Honestly? It’s hearing from customers. When someone tells me their skin feels better, or that they look forward to their shower now — that makes everything worth it. Plus, I love the creative side — blending scents, experimenting with natural colorants, and making something that feels beautiful and functional.

✨ Any advice for someone thinking about starting their own handmade business?

Start where you are, and follow the spark. You don’t need to know everything on day one. Just stay curious, stay honest, and stay connected to why you started. Oh — and don’t be afraid to be stubborn like a mountain goat. 😉
